2024 湿的讲座

The annual Winifred E. Weter Faculty Award Lecture for Meritorious Scholarship provides a public platform in which the claims of the liberal arts in the Christian university are espoused. Delivered each year by a SPU faculty member selected by the Faculty Status Committee, the 湿的讲座 honors Winifred E. Weter, SPU professor emerita of classics. Her teaching career spanning 40 years (1935–75) exemplifies a life of Christian character and integrity. Her love for the study of classical languages and literature inspired a similar enthusiasm in thousands of her students, this lecture continues that tradition of inspiration.

汉()nunchi (눈치)宋() are Korean constructs that profoundly shape Korean people’s lives. How might the understanding of these constructs offer lessons that generalize beyond the Korean setting, as we pursue intrapersonal, 人际关系, communal flourishing? In this lecture, Prof. Kim will explore the features of these constructs, drawing from his academic field of psychology but also Korean media and arts. He will articulate the strengths and pitfalls associated with nunchi. Whenever relevant, Prof. Kim will describe how the three constructs can be reimagined for faithful Christian living.

Q&A and reception to follow.
